During the entire visit was I was comfortable and well cared for. I don't know if the people who gave Columbia Eye Clinic a bad review went to a different location, but my experience on Pickens Street was wonderful. I highly recommend this practice.
I'm writing this to help others, like me, who are supporting their elderly parents or family members. My mom had a horrendous experience here. Staff seems overly-friendly at first, but if you have an issue, like my mom, repeatedly, they become more confusing and difficult to get clear explanations/next steps. I was so struck by how smooth they seem to operate that after four visits (over two months!) by my mom (to remedy poorly made lenses) I went in on her behalf to request a full refund. Mind you, these were $800+ frames/lenses that caused tremendous eye strain, pain and never were correct. They finally offered a refund with a restocking fee of $250. Yes, it says no returns on the original paperwork/receipt, but these lenses were NEVER made properly. It seems a scam that the customer is penalized for poor workmanship. Please save yourself and your beloved family members this stress (should you have the same fate) and go elsewhere. Costco optical turned out to be a superior option for my mom and other members of our family.
My father had a 10:30 appointment this morning so we arrived at about 10:15. The wait here has always been awful, but today was surreal. He was not seen until 1:30. For a simple 6 month eye checkup. No procedure. Never again. You left my 91 year old father sitting in a grossly uncomfortable hard straightchair for almost 3 1/2 hours because you can't get your act together. Totally unacceptable. The doctors are good but it's the most disorganized scheduling I have ever experienced in a doctors office. They consistently overbook so that the wait on a good day is over an hour. A visit to have your eyes checked should not take all day. To say that I am livid is an understatement. That is the last time you will do that to him. We are finding another practice that actually respects its patients enough to respect their time.
I went to Columbia Eye Clinic on Pickens St. yesterday. My appointment was at 2:20pm. I arrived on time and was checked in by a friendly and helpful woman. I was given the typical paperwork to fill out and directed to the waiting area.
In about 5-10 minutes, I was moved to an exam room to discuss the procedure I needed. The assistant was qualified and helpful. He took all the time I needed to ensure I knew what to expect and that all my questions were answered.
Next, I was introduced to Dr. Cain who was also professional, kind, a good listener and ready to spend as much time with me as needed.
Worst experience, rushed in and the optometrist was rough and hurt my eye by pressing too hard with an instrument. Then I got hustled into an extra fitting fee for something they didn't even do, asked why I was paying for something that they didn't do and got told " do you want your prescription or not!" like I'm the one to blame...uh excuse me I'm a customer who is trying to figure out why you are charging me for something you didn't even do. It's sad that this is what a paying customer has to deal with, very rude and demeaning and would not recommend. Best bet is to stay away from this place.
Most have been very positive, however, waiting can be a slight problem. Based on the number of patients they do a good job.
