ants- pest control guy is pretty nice- but a lot of ants in the apt.
Fingerprint- they register one of the fingers only one time- so half of time- the machines can't recognize your finger print. then ...wait for other ppl to open it for you.
My car had....finally a big scratch on it. I didn't have any safety issues-i was lucky. my friends/other residents had some issues- cars were broken.. robbed but the apt never told you. you should know how to search it by yourself and protect yourself.
It's a nice building. The suites are great; however, no one cleans the trash out. Every week, there's a smell that comes from the trash room. The dumpster is even worse.
gym- equip doesn't work quite often-broken or whatever. they clean the gym pretty often with strong chemical cleaners- hard to breath inside the gym . if you have a respiratory problem- don't go.i almost died.
trash - always full..its better to deal with it in the morning.
noisy- if you are a graduate/ senior - maybe not good for you.
My first year at USC, I lived on campus, and I can say that despite some issues I faced throughout the year, I can still say that this is an improvement from campus living. One of the biggest downsides, though, is that, like the apartments near it, it's only close enough to the main campus tease students about the distance. The easiest way to walk towards campus requires going across the tracks, and not the Blossom bridge. Anybody who has classes at Swearingen knows the struggle. If you're living here and move freely, you will want to bring a car because buses drive down to Park Place, but take while to get back. So, traffic and movement in the area around Park Place can be a hassle, but, honestly, in some ways the amenities and actual living space can make up for it. Also, the maintenance here is way better than FIXX, so things broken do get repaired.
Super happy that over-flow for student housing for freshman was in Park Place Columbia. Super convenient with the amenities which include weight room, saunas, pool, hot tub, etc. Other than the walk to campus, I'd highly recommend this complex.
lived there for a year and finally moved out - couple of things to consider- It is pretty nice to live closer to the campus- close to the shuttle stop - from the APT to a shuttle stop is pretty painful because there in no shade. pretty hot from April to October
no guest parking lot.
study room- it was a huge apt complex-but only have 2 study rooms
weekends are more painful. all hallways are filled with weird screaming, crazy running/yelling sound. If your room is closer to the pool- nice view but too loud.hard to sleep (some crazy ppl in the pool at night sometimes)
living room-all appliances are new, work well. I have no complains.
Attention to all students looking for housing in Columbia. DO NOT RENT FROM PARK PLACE. They bring you in with "fancy" amenities that are broken or not available half the time. Management was a complete joke, trash rooms never emptied, parking arm always broken, and it took 2 months and 4 work orders and calls to get a washer fixed. Also, they will randomly key themselves into your apartment for "urgent" emergencies (this happened to me 3 times). Not to mention they also charge ridiculous rates, trust me you are much better living somewhere cheaper or at least at palmetto compress if you want to spend that much money. Whoever opened this apartment complex had no clue what they were doing and it is evident every day you live there. Overall, a cardboard box with fake "fancy" features with management that will screw you over every chance they get. LOOK ELSEWHERE OR YOU WILL REGRET IT.
Business/printing/computer lab - printer is usually out of order during the semester,if you ask to the office- they will print out things for you
Nice clean apartment- all students who work at the office seem pretty nice- never had issues . helpful.
safety- I thought that it is pretty safe if you drive.
One more thing, other reviews discuss important topics like things that are broken, but most of those can be directly traced to how some students treat property in dorms. There's a reason why most actual on-campus dorms are not that great.
