Brought our dog in middle of night after he was bitten. The Vet recommended our dog have surgery ASAP and wanted to charge nearly $4000. We called a local vet who said they could do same surgery for $350. The dog was stable throughout the night and we called an hour ahead of our arrival to have them begin the discharge paperwork. Once we arrived to pick up our dog we had to wait an additional 2 hours all while our local vet stayed open after hours waiting on us. They were very rude and in no hurry at all. They recommended surgery ASAP and would not simply walk to the back and get our dog so we could leave. Even after the vet had cleared him and we had signed paperwork. Terrible experience I will never come here again and I recommend no one who cares about their dog to come here ever

I can’t stress enough how kind everyone was during such a difficult time. Dr. Hardy and Dr. Brown were so kind, patient, and empathetic. Anna, one of the front desk workers, was also very helpful. Yes, they are expensive, but they’ll do everything they can to help your pet.

During the time she was being cared for, the vet presented various options of what could be done (an x-ray, which he warned may or may not show wood due to its density, or sedation and endoscopic examination,), however, since her symptoms had ceased, and she was no longer distressed, he recommended observation - a course of action I was very comfortable with (I am retired from the medical community, and would have recommended the same for a choking patient no longer exhibiting symptoms). At no time was I pressured to do additional tests, procedures, or surgeries. I found the staff to be very professional, caring, personable, and honest in their recommendations and treatment. Their love of animals was very evident, as my dog was very comfortable with them.

My lab mix chewed a stick on her final evening walk last night, and began exhibiting symptoms of having something stuck in her throat. I took her to SC Vet Specialists when she was unable to dislodge the piece herself, and began to become extremely distressed. I was extremely pleased with the care she and I received while there. She was taken right in (we arrived just after midnight), and after evaluation and observation (She had apparently managed to clear the obstruction herself), we went home 2 1/2 hours later.

A lot of reviews presented here complain about the fees associated with ER vet care...like any emergency services (human or pet), it is going to be more expensive than a visit to one's regular health provider. As somebody who moved to Columbia from New England, I can honestly say that the fees at SC Vet are more than reasonable. Many years ago I had to rush a pet to an ER vet in Maine - it was $150.00 just to walk through the door and be evaluated - SC Vet was $ 78.00. The check in paperwork about fees was very concise, spelling out the evaluation fee, the estimate process, and the arrangements for payment. Unless you have pet insurance, bringing any animal to an ER vet is going to be expensive - it's a smart idea to have an emergency fund set aside for vet care, in case you should need it.

For routine care, my pets are established with a vet closer to home, but it was nice to have a 24 hour option available when we needed it. I will not hesitate to use SC Vet again for after hours emergencies, and highly recommend them.

At 6 am on a Sunday morning my dog got out and got badly bitten by another dog. He required surgery and the staff here was up to the job. Everyone was very friendly. Even the custodian came out to comfort my dog. The treatment he received was top notch. On a followup visit to his vet, the vet complimented the work done by South Carolina Veterinary Specialists and said that no further treatment, other than removal of stitches was necessary. My dog is now fully healed and I am very pleased with the service we received.

I had to take my kitten to the emergency room almost 2 weeks ago. I don't want to get into details because it is too painful. My baby, Ash unfortunately didn't make it, but the staff and the doctor were amazing! Dr. Hardy did everything in her power to help her, and I'll be forever grateful for her. Everyone on duty that night that I spoke with was really sincere and caring. I was a mess and I just wanted to let everyone know how much I appreciate you. Thanks again for everything.
